This interview features Reiser+Umemoto with Hiroko Nakatani in New York. Jesse and Nanako have been teaching in many architectural schools over the world for many years, and here they share with us their long teaching experience, their innovative challenges in design studios, inspiring thoughts on the future of architectural education and many other things. According to Jesse and Nanako their way of teaching is strongly influenced by their learning experiece with great architectural masters, such as John Hejduk and Aldo Rossi at Cooper Union. Hiroko Nakatani, who is a M.Arch. graduate from Pratt Institute, talks about her learning experience in Umemoto studio. According to Hiroko, Nanako always asks students to think about two issues at the same time; speculative ideas for the future and technical aspects of architecture. Interviewer Kazuko Sakamoto is a coordinator of exhibition called Japanese Junction, featuring works by Japanese students who are studying in leading architectural schools all over the world. Japanese Junction展のコーディネーターである坂本和子氏が、ジェシー・ライザー氏と梅本奈々子氏、また中谷泰子氏に、主に建築教育についてインタビューを行った（なお、以下のインタビューはすべて英語で行われています）。

場所はニューヨーク、イーストサイド59丁目のスタジオ。現在オフィスでは、台湾の二つのビッグプロジェクトが進行中だという。 ジェシー氏はプリンストン大学で准教授を務め、奈々子氏は、プラット・インスティテュート、SCI-Arc、ETHなどで教鞭をとる。長い間世界の建築系大学で教えてきた二人であり、インタビュアー自身が、90年代にコロンビア大学大学院で学んでいた時、ジェシーは最高学年のスタジオの先生だった。90年代の急激なスタジオのコンピューター化の波を経て、今も最先端のコンピューテーションにも柔軟に対応しつつ、自らの教育や制作への姿勢は決してぶれることなくやってきたという、自らのスタンスを丁寧に語って頂いた。冒頭、「母校であるクーパー・ユニオンのジョン・ヘイダックやアルド・ロッシから学んだことに強く影響を受けて教えている」と言われたことが印象的である。中谷泰子氏は、梅本スタジオの学生としての体験を語ってくれた。未来思考の推測的発想と建築の技術的側面という二つを、奈々子さんが問われていたのが印象的だったという。詳しくは、展覧会ブックレットにて。（坂本和子）
